چکیده

Performance (such as a course grade) is a joint function of an individual's ability (such as intelligence) and the situation (such as the instructor's grading leniency). Prior research has documented a human bias toward dispositional inference, which ascribes performance to individual ability, even when it is better explained through situational influences on performance. It is hypothesized here that this tendency leads admissions decisions to favor students coming from institutions with lenient grading because those students have their high grades mistaken for evidence of high ability. Three experiments show that those who obtain high scores simply because of lenient grading are favored in selection. These results have implications for research on attribution because they provide a more stringent test of the correspondence bias and allow for a more precise measure of its size. Implications for university admissions and personnel selection decisions are also discussed.

The Effect of Inflation Targeting on Indirect Tax Performance in Selected Countries Using Propensity Score Matching Model

Inflation targeting framework has become a predominant monetary approach across the globe. Williams (2015) believes that in a very real sense, almost all economies are inflation targeters -either explicit or implicit- now.(1) Due to the increasing spread of this policy, it is necessary to consider the way it affects macroeconomic variables. using prevalent economic models for evaluating the eff...

Inflation Bias, Time Inconsistency of Monetary and Fiscal Policies and Institutional Quality

In developing countries, weak institutional quality can increase the probability of applying discretionary policies and can have a great impact on their double-digit inflation. Surico (2008) calculated inflation bias, but he considered just monetary policy and he did not pay attention to the institutions. Therefore, we design a model which considers the discretion in monetary and fiscal policie...

Frequency bias in consumers' perceptions of inflation: An experimental study

We investigate whether the perception of economy-wide inflation is affected by the frequency with which various goods' prices are observed. We provide novel experimental evidence that consumers' perceptions of aggregate inflation are systematically biased toward the perceived inflation rates of the frequently purchased items. This ‘frequency bias’ may affect consumers’ consumption and investmen...

Vowel Acquisition Based on an Auto-Mirroring Bias with a Less Imitative Caregiver

Regardless of interaction with less frequent imitative caregivers, infants can obtain the vowels of the caregivers’ mother tongues, by finding the correspondence between their own vowels and the caregivers’ ones. This paper proposes a learning method based on the auto-mirroring bias (hereafter, AMB) with a self-evaluation mechanism to find such correspondence. The AMB is the robot’s anticipatio...
